Margaretville Cabin, $235,000

If you’re into the ski chalet-style, this pared-down version of it might interest you. It’s on five acres, at the end of a dead-end street, has a nice garden in progress and an open feel that seems appealing. Looks a little worse for wear, or maybe just kind of 80s-ish — too crammed with stuff — but nothing deal-killing. I like that it has a rain water collection system — a must for me in my future upstate home — and a pond, and I can imagine it being a great getaway for a writer or someone else who craves weekend solitude and doesn’t need more than one bathroom. FWIW, it was last assessed at $158,000 according to Property Shark, but we’ve found it pretty common that Delaware County properties are assessed at far below asking price. Stats on the jump.

  1. we stayed at this place over july 4th a few years ago with another couple. the owners were renting it for short term stays at that time. we had a wonderful weekend there and the view from the porch was indeed glorious and tranquil. it feels very private as there were few other homes on the road and was definitely quiet. felt like more than 5 acres because the land around it is open and undeveloped. the house was in great shape, not worse-for-wear at all. if that area is where you’re looking for a place, i would definitely go check this out.
