Frederick Clarke Withers Home in Newburgh for $395,000

This gorgeous home designed by Frederick Clark Withers has been on the market for a while. Now it is being listed as a short sale and the price has dropped considerably, so it’s worth a spot here on Upstater. Withers is known for his Gothic church designs, and he also worked with Calvert Vaux as a partner. This home has a carriage house, 6 bedrooms, and original character galore. Newburgh Postcard Home $229,000

This home is located in the more spaced out area of Newburgh and, its close to Mount St. Marys College. It looks like it came right out of a holiday card. Everything looks well maintained and tastefully updated considering that the home is over 80 years old. The kitchen could probably use a renovation to reflect more of the general style of the rest of the house. But there are hardwood floors, a fire place, and what even looks to be a sun room/nook. Here’s another home up for sale on Bay View Terrace, on the Bluff in Newburgh Heights. Right now it’s listed as a multi-family. It seems the apartment is located on the top floor. It wouldn’t be that hard to convert back. There are some original details like, pocket doors, stained glass, and built ins. The other huge plus with this home is the garage. There are two of them! One is a two car garage, and the other a three car garage. You’d never have to worry about parking again! Some else I was quite surprised about is that this home comes with the vacant land across the street. Could something ever be built on it? It doesn’t seem likely. Quirky Newburgh Home for $299,000

There is no doubt about it, this home is well placed. It is in between the new East Parmenter neighborhood and Washington’s Headquarters and the little shops nearby. The price however, does seem a bit high. What I really loved about this property is the little archway cut-out that was probably used for horses to be brought out back. A nice piece of nostalgic history since this property apparently dates back to 1850! These little quirky places make Newburgh such an interesting place. A little research at the library could probably provide more information on the original owners or use of these buildings.

I can’t tell if both sides are being considered as one but, the listing takes photos of both sides and says that there are 5 apartment units (ugh). These both look perfect for one family each. Urban Row Home in Newburgh $50,000

Location, location, location. This little gem of a house has all stops to make it your quaint little dream home. But the location isn’t the best in Newburgh, which might be why it is so cheap. At first glance you would think that the interior might be a shell. But surprisingly the inside has some nice updates, exposed brick, and wood floors.

The façade reminds me of this row home in London. It was probably a dingy area a few decades ago, and look at it now. I hope one day Lander Street can get a new image with preservation minded people interested in turning it’s reputation around. Wouldn’t it be amazing? Factory/Warehouse in Newburgh for $1.2 Million

The industrial past of Newburgh has left it with an interesting mix of commercial properties. This warehouse/factory at 311 First Street is among them, and it has a vast amount of possibilities. It’s no secret that the City could use the extra income and, it’s no secret that Hudson River Towns have seen complete makeovers due to a new art venue or museum moving into spaces such as these because of the large spaces they provide.

This building is huge, and has tons of windows that provide natural light. It is located on the corner of 9W and First Street, and only 2 blocks down from Downing Park. It seems to be currently housing some kind of ventilation company. I have no clue of the company is still operating and the owner just wants to sell the building. Waterfront Mansion in Newburgh for $455,000

Whenever I think of Montgomery Street in Newburgh, this is one of the first homes that pop into mind. It has been photographed, painted, illustrated, and admired by many. Despite being partitioned into 4 different apartments, 192 Montgomery appears to have been well preserved for a home that is over 130 years old.
