Elizaville, N.Y.

Read the latest posts about Elizaville here.

Elizaville seems like a great spot if you want to be near the action, but not in it. Twenty minutes from swanky Rhinebeck (“the Hamptons of Dutchess County), Fifteen from Bard College and a short skip from Lake Taghkanic State Park, it also has two bodies of water, the Twin Lakes, one of which has a public beach. You’ll need wheels for sure if you rent or buy here, since not much more than a convenience store or pizzeria is within walking distance. The Bear Systems website has a list of Elizaville businesses, of which there are few. Plenty of quiet and nature here.

Distance to NYC: 107 miles; 2 hours, 25 minutes
Transportation: Amtrak to Rhinecliff station
County: Columbia

  1. I keep reading comments about how this town has little here, etc.. You make it sound like that is a negative. That is why people like it here. And, this is not a town; it is a hamlet of a larger township, but it has grown to be a small village-like hamlet. What is great is how it is very rural and private but yet has a great diner and pizzeria/convenience store, beautiful scenery and is located centrally between major highways and several local cities and villages. Just because a place you comment on is small, you don’t need to put a negative spin on it. Anyone could do that with larger places like NYC also.

    • Thanks for the note! We only meant that there are few amenities (something people used to amenities want to know). But some people love that and don’t need an all-night bodega on every corner!
